31/07/2017 0:00 - Crop Progress and Condition Reports
GEA – Agricultural Strategic Guide/BCR
23% of wheats are in regular condition due to frost
The intense cold, caused the browning of the core region to fall, leaving 23% of the surface of wheat in a regular condition. No plants have been lost, but intense frosts left their mark, especially in Cordoba. Fortunately, the abundance of leaves absorbed the thermal shock, the meristems have been saved and plant losses in the stands have been avoided. But, although technicians are generally inclined to say that the performance would not be affected, in areas badly damaged as in Noetinger, farmers are not sure of this and want to observe how it ends up evolving the crop in the coming weeks. For now, everyone agrees that the recovery will be very slow and we must be aware of the weeds that are already starting to appear.
The region is still betting on wheat
Next week will begin to fertilize wheat, propping up to obtain quality wheat and yields above 4 tons. On the other hand, with the cessation of rains some more lots were incorporated, especially in the northeast of Buenos Aires. They also returned to plant those in which the implantations had failed because of water excesses. The south center of Santa Fe and southeast of Cordoba practically finished the sowing. In the north of Buenos Aires, 5% of the area is still to be planted. Still resentful of the intense cold of last week, the development half-week was practically null. 60% of the pictures continue in full tillering, as in the previous week, and 25% starting this stage.
December corn: North of Buenos Aires with the highest yields
Corn sown in December in the north of Buenos Aires climbed the podium with 9 tn/ha, leaving behind the 7 tons that average the rest of the region. Harvest takes 75%. In some places, grain moisture does not give way. Some farmers begin to choose to pay for the drying
