Death of tillers, loss of leaf area and interruption of growth was the balance left by the intense frost of dawn on Monday 17/07 and Tuesday 18/07. In the most affected areas of Córdoba, the evolution of its effects should be followed next week to evaluate the impact.
The wheats of Cordoba were the most affected by the frosts, since they had a great aerial development and were very tender by the lack of intense colds. In the rest of the region, there would not be a significant condition that puts the yield potential in compromise: the wheats are with very good conditions and good water reserves. But the crop cycle is delayed, including the closing of the furrow, by the drastic slowdown of the growth rate. The crop will have to repair and replace its foliar apparatus, losing the advantage over weeds. Iced wheats will spend more time than expected vulnerable to weeds.
Frozen planting at the end: the advance is 98%
Although there was not a great advance of the sowing in the week due to the precipitations of the previous week, small areas were added in the north of Buenos Aires, in particular the less reached by the rains. The condition continues to stand out in the crop with 80% between excellent and very good condition.
Corn planted in December
The few hectares that were harvested are moving farther away from the averages of the last few seasons. The yields marked 7 Tn/ha. The harvest advance is 60%. Rainfall over some areas does not reduce the moisture in the grains.
Corn 2017/18, would rise by 10%
Many of the plots that could not be planted with wheat would pass to corn. The cereal continues to gain surface, but the cost of freight limits its expansion. The high initial investment and the high yields of indifference place it in the third place of importance in the rotation of the region, behind the first soybean and the double crop wheat/soybean.
